The capstone of this project is the students building of 1/50 th scale models of Tsunami Shelter. They will design the shelter using the simulator. Once they are satisified that it meets all design criteria and can withstand the target Tsunami, they use 3/4" blocks and toothpast to build the structure. These structures will be tested in the OSU Tsunami Wave Basin.

Pilot Class: Models and Testing

The 2007 Fall Semester Advanced Science Class at Ashbrook Independent School served as a pilot class for this project. They tested the simulator and worked out many bugs for us. They also were very patient as we fine tuned the specifications for the Tsunami Models they were building. On January 23, 2008, we took their shelters to the Oregon State Tsunami Wave Basin for testing. This event was web casted and video taped. Links to this footage as well as pictures from the day are available below.

The shelters were tested under 5 wave conditions (10 - 60 cm waves corresponding to 5 meter - 30 meter waves)
